Fifty-three years ago three Presentation Sisters came to San Antonio, Texas from Co. Cork (Ireland) at the request of Archbishop Robert E. Lucey. They began teaching in St. Leo Catholic School, followed by St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School, and then they founded St. Gregory Catholic School. The Sisters continue to respond to needs wherever they arise.

Sister Brendan Donegan, PBVM: Religious Education, St. Matthew Parish Coordinator of Preschool through Grade 5. St. Matthew Parish Religious Education program serves 900+ students attending public school, consisting of a variety of ethnic backgrounds, approximately 70% Hispanic, also including recent refugees from Africa and families displaced by recent hurricanes. St. Matthew is a very large parish with many young families, mostly middle to upper middle class, but also including economically poor in government housing. Great efforts are made to reach out to and welcome the many poor among us.

Sister Josepha Feeney, PBVM: Sisters Care Sisters Care of San Antonio, a non-profit ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Sisters Care exists to help the elderly cope with the difficulties of aging. Through personal service and caring assistance we promote human dignity and preserve independence. "With cheerful presence we create friendships and maintain the bonds of community. Through human compassion, in the shadows of approaching mortality, we help bring the light of Divine Love."

Sister Cabrini Foley, PBVM: Teacher, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Blessed Sacrament School consists of a middle class community. The parents make many sacrifices and do anything to keep their children in a Catholic school. The ethnic background is predominantly Hispanic. "Teaching little children, as Nano Nagle our Foundress did, is what I wish to continue doing as long as I can."

Sister Catherine Gleitz, PBVM: Director/Teacher, Our Lady's Pre-Kindergarten. Our Lady's Pre-Kindergarten is owned by Presentation Sisters, and is located on the convent grounds. The school serves 60 to 70 children (mixed ethnic backgrounds, predominantly Hispanic, mixed socio-economic status). Much time is also spent giving support and encouragement to present and past parents who are struggling with divorce, child custody, emotional and mental problems, and helping them with parenting skills.

Sister Therese Gleitz, PBVM: Religious Education, St. Matthew Parish Coordinator Grade 1-8. (See description of St. Matthew Parish above, under Sister Brendan Donegan.)

Sister Immaculata Kelly, PBVM: Pastoral Associate/Director of Religious Education, San Jose Parish. Sister Immaculata has served in a wide variety of ways, for fifteen years at Mission San Jose Parish with 1,200 families. San Jose is a poor-middle class urban parish. Of registered parishioners, 83% are Hispanic, 16% Anglo, and less than 1% are African-American.

Sister Carmel O'Callaghan, PBVM: Local Leader, Parish Associate, St. Gregory Parish. Sister Carmel works in a parish that is 50 years old. The parish has a Catholic school with 625 students and a Religious Education program with 400 students. The people are mainly Hispanic but most speak English. About half of those who attend church and school come from outside the parish. After 50 years, the neighborhood is rundown, and poorer families now live there. There is much work to be done in St. Gregory Parish: home visits, hospital visits, adult education, etc. "I hope to continue ministering here as long as I am able."
